reduced compartment model

Post by thats_karlo »

Dear friends,

Assume, we have a cell with some dendretic branch and numbers of dendretic segment. we can consider every segment as a single compartment and finally we will have a multi-compartment model, right?

But, if we like to reduce this multi-compartment to (1,3, 5,..)- compartment model, which startegy we should take?

Is there any option, in "Neuron" for this case?
If no, is there any code for that? ( like *.mod or *.hoc file)

Thank's in advance!

Karlo

The first and most important tool for reducing model complexity is judgement, guided by
experience and a thorough knowledge of the experimental basis for the model in question.
There have been a few papers on the topic of model simplification; you might start by
reading this one:
Bush, P.C. and Sejnowski, T.J. Reduced compartmental models of neocortical
pyramidal cells. Journal of Neuroscience Methods 46:159-166, 1993.
