Postdoc position available - starting Jan 1st, 2007.

A postdoc position is available for a mixed computational and
experimental study of synaptic conductance dynamics in neocortical
pyramidal neurons. This project will be conducted in the laboratory
for integrative and computational neuroscience (UNIC) at the CNRS of
Gif sur Yvette, France. The project will consist in the conception of
methods to estimate synaptic conductances from intracellular
recordings (Alain Destexhe's laboratory), the test of these methods
experimentally using dynamic-clamp in vitro (Thierry Bal's
laboratory) and during visual stimulation in primary visual cortex in
vivo (Yves Fregnac's laboratory). This project will also be in
collaboration with INRIA Odyssee group at the ENS, Paris (Romain
Brette, Olivier Faugeras). It will make extensive use of the NEURON
simulator for both modeling and experiments, and requires strong
knowledge in biophysics and modeling (conductances) - previous
experience in electrophysiology is preferable.

The CNRS campus of Gif-sur-Yvette is entirely devoted to research and
situated in the vicinity of Paris. The UNIC consists of an integrated
and interactive environment comprising in vivo electrophysiology (Y.
Fregnac, D. Shulz), in vitro electrophysiology (T. Bal, K. Grant),
comparative anatomy (J-P. Denizot) and computational neuroscience (A.
Destexhe).

The candidate should have a Doctoral degree, experience in
neuroscience and computer programming, and a sufficient knowledge of
electrophysiology. There is no restriction on nationality. The salary
will be paid by a grant from ANR, which will be available on January
1st, 2007, for an initial period of 1 year, and possible extension up
to 3 years. Candidates should contact Alain Destexhe for more
details, or consult the site http://cns.iaf.cnrs-gif.fr
