Hi,

I have morphological data of a cell, which is obtained by Neurolucida.

to import these data, i'm using Tool/Miscellaneous/import 3D
(I have *.ASC data file)

but, i get following error

for "soma", should we use one conture or more, to specify the shape of soma?

1- in the previous post i put the data of one branch of the cell.
and exactly i see the same error! I hope somebody can find out the problem.


2- Multiple contours for soma:

export data creates multiple CellBuilder , then the problem is which of them ?

2- and if we take one contour for soma, and we have several branch, sometimes we will get following error message:
Main branch starting at line 5763 is outside the soma bounding boxes
Making a logical connection to center of nearest soma

Default logical connection to nearest soma.
check to physically connect to closest parent in the xy plane.

[] Line#5763 connect to #9 1.27675(um) away

Do you have any suggestion for me?

which seems to have an extra number.
However, there is something more
serious. I believe there are 816 open
parentheses but only 814 close parentheses. I suspect some unknown
quantity of text has dropped out of your data file. But perhaps the error was in
pasting a large file into the forum. Why don't you zip up your data file and send
it to me by email. (Michael.Hines@yale.edu).

Forgot to mention. It is ok to have multiple soma contours (multiple cells) in the same file.

Question about multiple contours for soma:

Answer:
The contours represent slices through the soma. After viewing them in
the Import3D, decide which one to retain and get rid of the rest. Or
else get rid of all of them and define a new contour from a different
projection that best captures the overall shape of the soma. Remember
that, electrically, the only thing that matters is the total
3-d area. It is fine to use a cylindar with L and diam so PI*L*diam
has the right area, it just looks ugly. Import3d uses the
contour to define a more or less cylindrically symetric object.
