On working on this a bit further, in most instances the way to work via getattr() works well, however, if I try to get the vector in a location on either the dendrite or axon, it falls over. that is exactly what I was after - works like a charm. It is hard for an amateur C programmer to get used to the python language as the notion of a pointer does not really exist - that bridged this gap... they do exist but in disguise. Thanks and cheers Christian.
