Re: File browser dialog missing in Import3D

I realize that a suitable work-around for your case is to modify the dialog popup location so that the left edge of the window is at (400,400) instead of the "middle" of the virtual screen. If you'd like I can provide a version of neuron that does that. If this is a change to .hoc files, ...

Re: File browser dialog missing in Import3D

Sadly, I was unable to rearrange screens in the virtualbox XP machine. So I am unable to experiment with the main screen on the right. Further work will have to wait til I have a mswin machine with dual head available to work with. I don't know when that will happen. Thank you very much for looking...

Re: File browser dialog missing in Import3D

Thank you for your help. What follows is no doubt specific to my case, but perhaps it is still relevant: 1. I like to work with one screen directly in front of me, where I do most of my work, and a second auxiliary screen to one side, where I can arrange multiple figures, lists of data, etc. 2. Phys...

Re: File browser dialog missing in Import3D

What version of MSWin are you using? Windows XP Professional 32-bit BTW I'm not sure about the advisability of having multiple different versions of NEURON installed under MSWin--if that's what you're doing. No, I usually just use one version. I simply installed 7.1 and 7.2 alpha as per your sugges...

Re: File browser dialog missing in Import3D

Workaround found: Use virtual screen scaling to bring off screen window into view, drag it "on screen", then rescale. After clicking the "choose a file" checkbox: Window -> Print & File Window Manager Session -> Virtual Screen Scale -> 2.0 (now at this scale I can see the fil...

Re: File browser dialog missing in Import3D

I've installed both NEURON 7.1 and NEURON 7.2 alpha, but the problem persists. A restart, then running NEURON as the only GUI app also did not improve the situation. My sense is that clicking the "choose a file" checkbox does have some effect (in one case, there was a bit of a pause before...

File browser dialog missing in Import3D

Instructions for using Import3D read: In the Import3D window, click on the "choose a file" checkbox. This brings up a file browser. Use the file browser to go to the directory that contains the morphometric data file. When I click the checkbox, a check mark appears, but no dialog becomes v...

Re: Native Mac OS X 15x slower than virtualized Windows

Hi Ted, Thank you for your explanations and suggestions. My code no longer modifies any of the standard run procedures, I am plotting per your suggestion, and I've modified the mechanisms slightly to be thread-safe, allowing use of both processor cores under native Mac OS X. Things are pretty fast n...

Re: Native Mac OS X 15x slower than virtualized Windows

Progress! But still mysterious. In short: closing the RunControl window reduced the simulation time to 28 seconds (from about 180). Other changes to my hoc code reduced the simulation time to 11 seconds (with RunControl) or 6 seconds (without RunControl). 1a. For the previously reported simulations,...

Re: Native Mac OS X 15x slower than virtualized Windows

I reran the simulation after closing most user programs, and it took 189 seconds. Then I reran the simulation after closing all user programs, including this browser, and turning off WiFi, and again it took 178 seconds to complete natively. CPU usage reached 20% in top for the nrniv process. I'm lau...

Re: Native Mac OS X 15x slower than virtualized Windows

Hi Ted, Thank you for your quick response. I've only just seen it now, as I was expecting to receive an email notification of changes to the thread, but I did not. In my account, I had selected "yes" for the "Notify me upon replies by default" setting, and thought this was adequa...

Native Mac OS X 15x slower than virtualized Windows

Hi, I've been using NEURON 7.1 in a virtualized Windows 7 environment (in VMWare Fusion, on a Macbook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6.3, with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB of RAM). Initially, my reason for running in virtualized Windows was for compatibility with a colleague who runs NEURON...
